Telluride, Colo. – Reports of little snow and poor skiing in the Colorado Rockies are – to borrow a phrase from Mark Twain – greatly exaggerated, according to an executive with Telluride’s premier slopeside resort.

“Skiers need only look to southwest Colorado,” says Neil Hastings, Mountain Lodge at Telluride’s director of marketing and sales. At the world-renown Telluride Ski Resort, all lifts, more than 90 percent of lift-accessed terrain, and some of the area’s best hike-to skiing terrain are open.

Winter White Sale
To mark the state’s best snow, Mountain Lodge at Telluride is offering a Winter White Sale. Guests booking stays of three of more nights through Feb. 10 will receive a 20 percent discount on any lodge room, one-bedroom unit or cabin, and 30 percent discount on a two-bedroom unit. Adult lift tickets are available at a 30 percent savings if purchased in advance. With the White Sale discounts, lodging begins at $159 per night.

Kids fly free

Families booking lodging with the Winter White Sale also can take advantage of American Airlines’ 2012 Kids Fly Free Promotion – if they purchase tickets by Jan. 27. With flights into Montrose, the major airport serving Telluride, the promotion allows children age 2-12 to fly free, with one child free for each adult-fare paying ticket. The special is good for travel on American flights into and out of Montrose through March 1 (Feb. 15-28 black-out dates). The Kids Fly Free Promotion applies to flights into Montrose Sunday through Thursday, and out of Montrose Monday through Friday. A minimum stay of two nights is required, along with ticketing at least 21 days prior to departure.

The smart winter visitor
For those looking to ski Telluride’s world-class mountain, Telluride Ski Resort has 1,700 skiable (and boardable) acres with nearly 100 named runs and 20 lifts. But visitors to Mountain Lodge at Telluride also will find six Nordic ski areas, an extensive network of huts for backcountry skiing, three outdoor skating rinks, snowmobiling, dogsledding.

“With these specials, the resort’s location and convenience, and the ability to prepare some of your own meals, Mountain Lodge at Telluride offers more for the skiing dollar than anywhere else in North America,” says Hastings. The smart visitor realizes luxury accommodations, slopeside access, a five-minute walk to the area’s free gondola, and no lift lines. With only 5,000 hotel/lodging beds in Telluride, and a chair lift base that can handle 22,000 skiers an hour, explains Hastings, skiers will never find a chair lift line.
